GAARC
Meeting: Thursday, January 4,2007
Schiele Museum
A personal note:
Thanks to Jim Craig, KI4OCC, for his assistance in securing the Schiele Museum for the GAARC meetings. I believe this facility will work very well.
Paul opened the meeting by welcoming everyone to the first GAARC meeting of 2007, to a new meeting location and introduced several new members in the audience.
Paul mentioned the latest news from the FCC, that the Morse code requirement is going to be dropped. He also made mention of the other upcoming meetings and events of GCARS, ARES and the Mecklenburg Amateur Radio Society.
The next test session in Gastonia will be at the public library on Saturday January 13,2007
The 2006 Swapfest was a successful event for the club, but we need to start planning a little earlier
for the next Swapfest. The intended date for the next Swapfest is Saturday December 1,2007.
The topic of Field Day was brought up and the question was put forth as to where to hold this year’s event. Field Day will be held on the weekend of June 23 & 24, 2007.
Jim Craig made the suggestion of setting up in the museum parking lot. Everyone in attendance seemed pleased with the idea and Jim was asked to look into this and bring back more information.
The club/repeater callsign has been renewed. We should be good for another 10 years. Glenn, KD4TLC, is currently the trustee of the club call. We have talked to Glenn and he has agreed that a trustee with extra privileges would be very beneficial to the club. Ken, AG4EI, was interested and was asked to get up with Glenn and see what was needed to get the trustee status changed.
Paul mentioned that if anyone was interested in looking at the repeater on Crowder’s, to let him know and he would arrange trip up. We hope to do some work on the repeater when time permits.
Milton mentioned that several members are going to visit Grier Middle School on Thursday January 25th for a ham radio demonstration. Members were asked to monitor the radio that day if they could, to help out and assist with the contacts
Don gave a presentation on baluns and asked the members that if there is a subject that they had an interest in to let him know and he would see what he could arrange.
Paul reminder everyone of the next meeting date, February1, 2007 and adjourned the meeting
Respectfully submitted
Milton Rice
